BTG participates in the Trekfest Challenge

London, UK, 03 June 2014

46 colleagues trek up to 54 miles this weekend to raise money for Cancer Research

BTG, the specialist healthcare company, announces its participation in the Trekfest Challenge this weekend in the Brecon Beacons in Wales to raise £10,000 for Cancer Research UK, which is dedicated to scientific research to help prevent, diagnose and treat cancer. The team’s fundraising page is located at: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/trekfest.

A total of 46 employees from each of BTG’s four UK sites (London, Camberley, Farnham and West Wales), together with some family members and friends, aim to complete either a 54 mile route within 24 hours or a 29 mile route within 12 hours. The hike will begin and end in Hope Valley and will encompass the highest peaks in the Beacons and South Wales including Pen y Fan (886m), Corn Du (873m), Cribyn (795m) and Fan y Big (719m).

Louise Makin, CEO of BTG commented, “It is fantastic that so many of my colleagues have been inspired to participate in this tough challenge to raise money for Cancer Research UK. We have a number of products in our portfolio which are used in the management of patients with cancer so this is a very relevant charity for us to support. I look forward to congratulating participants on the successful completion of the event early next week.”

Francesca Tiller, Central Fundraising Manager at Cancer Research UK said, “We are very grateful to BTG for choosing to donate the money raised from Trekfest to Cancer Research UK and thank them all for their hard work this weekend. With no government funding we rely on donations from the general public and fundraisers just like this. Every penny raised by BTG staff will take us one step closer to achieving our vision of beating cancer sooner. We wish all those taking part in this event the best of luck.”

About Cancer Research UK

Together with world class scientists, Cancer Research UK are leading the way in discovering and developing new ways to prevent and treat cancer. As a result we’ve doubled survival rates in just 40 years, but we can’t stop here there’s still so much more we need to do. A donation of £10 buys enough glass slides for a scientist to examine 454 tumour samples down a microscope and around £20 is enough to kit out a scientist with the essential protective equipment they need in the labs.

Cancer Research UK continues to be the only charity fighting over 200 cancers, including the one that matters most to you. Our vision is to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured. We can’t do it without you.  By working together we will beat more cancers sooner. For further information about Cancer Research UK please visit our website at www.cruk.org.
