Boston Scientific Named in Top 30 of America’s Most JUST Companies
By Dave Pierce, Executive Vice President and President, MedSurg, and Executive Sponsor to CSR Steering Committee
Forbes and Just Capital have released their 2020 list of America’s top 100 JUST companies, and Boston Scientific ranked 28 overall, second among companies in the healthcare equipment and services industry, and number one for workers. The list, known as the JUST 100, ranks companies on how well they treat their employees and customers, their environmental impact, and their contributions to the communities in which they do business, including job creation. It also considers the quality of their products and the diversity and ethics of their leadership.
It is an honor to be recognized, but it is also a reminder for us to push ourselves to do more, better—around the world. We’re learning that setting goals and operating with transparency help keep us on track. For example, we’ve committed to using 100% renewable electricity by 2024 and to carbon neutrality in all manufacturing facilities by 2030. Two of our sites in Costa Rica are already carbon neutral and in 2020, more will follow in Europe. Our 10/20/40 goals have helped us advance diversity and inclusion at all levels of the organization, especially at the supervisor and manager levels where we can accelerate change and make progress to better represent the diversity of the patients and customers whom we serve globally.
Publicly defining our priorities and holding ourselves accountable is critical to driving strong business performance for all our stakeholders. As our CEO, Mike Mahoney, has said, “It’s not a matter of doing the right thing instead of focusing on the bottom line: It’s about doing the right thing because that is the best way for us to achieve sustainable, long-term growth.”
I’m proud of the way our teams work together every day to fulfill our mission to transform lives, and I’m even prouder that we’ll continue to set the bar higher every year.
