Boston Scientific named to Fortune’s America’s Most Innovative Companies list

Mar 25, 2024

Today, Fortune announced that Boston Scientific was named to its America’s Most Innovative Companies list for 2024.

Fortune partnered with market research and data company Statista to mine surveys from thousands of employees and experts across the United States – including management consultants, patent attorneys and human resources experts – and identified 300 organizations that are transforming their industries from the inside out.

The surveys ranked companies based on their scores in three categories: product innovation, process innovation (including sourcing, production and marketing) and innovation culture (meaning the ways that companies foster a spirit of creativity and allow teams to implement new ideas).

All are areas in which Boston Scientific engages in “meaningful innovation” – a value that’s core to our company mission.

Meaningful innovation in 2023

In the last year alone, Boston Scientific launched nearly 90 new products. Some, like the POLARx™ Cryoablation System, were developed to expand our product portfolios and help address physicians’ unmet clinical needs. Others, like the WATCHMAN FLX™ Pro Left Atrial Appendage Closure (LAAC) Device, reflect improvements on existing devices based on what we’ve learned through clinical research and real-world clinical practice. It’s all part of a culture of innovation through which R&D teams across our businesses are continually exploring ways to fine-tune products and ensure they’re addressing unmet patient and physician needs.

Through our Close the Gap health equity initiative, we’re creating new opportunities for women and people of color in the United States – whose medical needs are traditionally underserved – to get the heart and vascular care they need. Using ZIP code-based data, for instance, the Close the Gap team has identified specific communities that are lacking in equitable care, and then collaborated with providers and administrators to connect with those populations. In 2023, Close the Gap pinpointed nearly 55,000 people at risk of missing equitable access to heart and vascular care and worked with 74 health care institutions to close cardiovascular treatment gaps.

Meanwhile, our supply chain team is hard at work innovating new processes through which our devices can be manufactured, packaged and distributed in more efficient and sustainable ways. Through our new end-to-end ideal product flow initiative, which involves optimizing delivery routes, streamlining product instructions and more, we hope to meaningfully decrease our carbon footprint while also reducing our paper use by 90% by 2026.

Boston Scientific is dedicated to transforming lives through innovative solutions that improve the health of patients around the world. We’re honored to be recognized by Fortune as a Most Innovative Company. We know that there is always more work to be done to meet unmet health care needs, and we are up to the challenge.
