2019 Fit for a Cause Winners Announced

Apr 3, 2019

Boston Scientific teamed up with the Boston Celtics to challenge our employees to reach their fitness goals and make a difference in our community. The 2019 Fit for a Cause program gives employees in Massachusetts and Rhode Island a chance to compete for the grand prize: a pay-it-forward gift to renovate a local children’s community center.

This year’s winning team, the Berkshire Partners Blue Hill Boys & Girls Club, has won a renovation for their pre-teen space. The renovation will give kids a new space to be creative, connect with friends and interact with technology. The new improvements will be unveiled at an event with Club members and the Celtics later this year.

“We are grateful to Boston Scientific and the Boston Celtics for their efforts to renovate the pre-teen room at our Berkshire Partners Blue Hill Boys & Girls Club,” said Josh Kraft, Nicholas President and CEO, Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston. “Healthy development through fitness and community is at the core of the Club’s mission. Updates to the room will help foster a safe and accessible environment for this age group, all thanks to Boston Scientific, the Boston Celtics, and their shared passion to strengthen neighborhoods.”

More than 300 employees participated in this year’s challenge. Three teams competed by logging their exercise hours, answering fitness-related questions, and practicing the work-out move of the week. Fit for a Cause Team captains volunteer to help encourage their team members to stay motivated during the six-week challenge.   Employees also received points for posting about their progress on Yammer, our online community forum.

“Each year, teams work together to try different work-out routines and encourage each other to stay motivated during the six-week program,” said Amanda Kourtz, Fitness Manager at the Boston Scientific Fitness Center. “It’s a win-win for everyone involved because participants are driven by the cause to give back to their community, but also forming healthier habits along the way.”

This is the third year that Boston Scientific has sponsored the Fit for a Cause program. Previous challenges have funded gym renovations for the Boys and Girls Club of Metrowest and the Waterford Street School in Gardner, MA.
