Ginger L. Graham to Leave Guidant to Pursue Other Interests

Indianapolis, Ind. - Guidant Corporation (NYSE: GDT), a world leader in the treatment of cardiac and vascular disease, today announced that Ginger L. Graham, Advisor to the President, has elected to leave the company to pursue other interests.

Graham was named advisor to the president last year and focused on strategic issues for Guidant, including the development of business collaborations, talent recruitment and development, and Guidant's women's health initiatives. Prior to assuming this role, Graham was group chairman, Office of the President. She served as president, Vascular Intervention, from the formation of Guidant until 1999. Graham started her career with Eli Lilly and Company and served in a number of management positions.

Graham has been increasingly active in industry and professional organizations. She serves on the board of directors for Amylin Pharmaceuticals and Millennium Pharmaceuticals. She serves as a director and a member of the Executive Committee for California Healthcare Institute. She also serves on the advisory board for the Kellogg Center for Executive Women, the board for the Silicon Valley Chapter of American Heart Association, and the Harvard Business School Health Advisory Board and is a member of the Committee of 200.

Graham will continue to support company initiatives during a brief transition period.
