Madeleine's back in action again

Jun 28, 2023

Madeleine’s pain began as backaches that affected her mobility. As her condition worsened and spread to her thighs, she found herself in and out of the hospital and on various medications. Eventually, her pain became so severe that she could no longer drive and began to rely on mobility aids to walk around.

Madeleine tried many options — from traditional Chinese medicine to prescription painkillers, and even a morphine pump — but nothing worked for her. Desperate for relief, she decided to explore spinal cord stimulation (SCS), which uses an implanted device to deliver mild electrical impulses that interrupt pain signals sent through the spinal cord.

After her first SCS device gave her uncomfortable tingling sensations and a routine tuning triggered a pain episode, she decided to switch to a device from Boston Scientific: the WaveWriter Alpha™ SCS System with FAST™ Therapy (Fast-Acting Sub-perception Therapy), which is designed to deliver paresthesia-free pain relief.

After one week, the pain and tingling began to decrease. Today she is back to doing the things she loves and has even started to drive to meet her clients again.

Madeleine’s message to Boston Scientific: “Thank you for giving me my life back.”
