Boston Scientific named a Top 100 Global Innovator

Jan 25, 2018

Boston Scientific is proud to be recognized for the second consecutive year as a Top 100 Global Innovator by Clarivate Analytics. Formerly known as the Thomson Reuters Top 100 Global Innovators, this annual report highlights the most successful organizations in the world that are active in innovation through research and development, protection of their IP and the achievement of commercial success. Boston Scientific is one of only two North American companies that were newcomers in 2016 and retained their position on the Top 100 Global Innovators list.

“Serving patients inspires meaningful innovation to address the toughest challenges in healthcare,” said Dave Knapp, vice president, Corporate Research, Boston Scientific.  “Being named to the Top 100 Global Innovators list recognizes the quality, reach and impact of our medical technologies and solutions for patients and healthcare systems around the world.”

In 2017, Boston Scientific launched approximately 100 new products and helped 25 million patients worldwide.

The Clarivate Analytics top 100 Global Innovators methodology analyzes patent and citation data across four main criteria: patent volume, application-to-grant success, globalization and citation influence (how often a patent is cited by other companies in the patenting of their inventions).

“We believe the power of innovation is a fundamental driver of economic wellbeing, competitive advantage and success, which represents the heart of our business – to accelerate the pace of innovation through discovery, protection and commercialization,” said Jay Nadler, CEO of Clarivate Analytics. “Our Top 100 Global Innovators methodology eliminates any ambiguity as to what makes an organization innovative and we congratulate those who have made meaningful gains to usher in the next era of global innovation.”
